Frequently Asked Questions

We know that starting something new, especially something as personal as pelvic health care, can bring up questions. Below are answers to some of the most common questions our clients ask. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please reach out. We’re happy to help.

  • Your first visit is all about understanding you—your symptoms, your goals, and how your body is functioning as a whole. We’ll start with a conversation to learn more about what you’re experiencing, along with your daily habits, medical history, and what you hope to achieve through care.

Next, your pelvic floor physical therapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation. This includes, but not limited to, the assessment of your fascial system, movement patterns, posture,  breathing, core stability and pelvic floor muscles. An internal PF exam is always optional and only performed with your full consent.

Throughout the session, you’ll receive education to help you better understand your body and the factors contributing to your symptoms. Before you leave, you’ll be given a personalized plan, which may include exercises, strategies, and simple tools to support your progress between visits.

  • In Illinois, you can see a physical therapist directly without a referral for an initial evaluation and treatment. This is called Direct Access. You’re welcome to book your first appointment even if you haven’t seen your doctor yet.

However, if you plan to submit a superbill for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) reimbursement, your insurance may require a physician’s script or referral for those sessions to be covered. If you’re unsure, we recommend checking with your insurance provider before your first visit.

If your therapist determines that additional medical input would be helpful, we’ll coordinate with your healthcare provider to make sure your care remains connected and collaborative.

  • You don’t need to do anything special,  just wear comfortable clothing you can move in. You’re welcome to bring a list of questions, notes about your symptoms, or any previous imaging or medical reports.

  • Therapy is always guided by your comfort and consent. Some techniques involve gentle internal work, but your therapist will explain everything before proceeding and ensure you feel safe and in control. Many clients are surprised at how gentle and relieving the sessions can feel.

  • Every person’s healing timeline is different. Some clients notice improvement after just a few visits; others benefit from ongoing sessions over several months. Your therapist will discuss an individualized plan based on your goals and how your body responds to treatment.

  • Yes. Centerline offers pelvic floor therapy for women, men, and children. Pelvic health is important for everyone, and our team is trained to provide individualized, age-appropriate care.

  • Yes. Centerline is an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). If you have BCBS insurance, your sessions may be covered in part or in full depending on your plan and deductible.

If you do not have BCBS, Centerline operates as an out-of-network provider, which allows us to offer individualized, one-on-one care without the limitations of insurance-based treatment models. You can still submit for potential reimbursement. We’ll provide a detailed receipt (“superbill”) for you to share with your insurance company.
